Profile: Fabiaan van Vrekhem AltoPartners Operating Committee Member / Managing Partner Accord Group Belgium

Fabiaan van Vrekhem, Managing Partner at Accord Group in Belgium and an AltoPartners Operating Committee Member, has accumulated a wide range of experience in all areas of Human Resources, organisational development and leadership. His extensive and diverse career has led Fabiaan to firmly believe that regardless of the industry, people are at the centre of any business and they truly make the difference to the business.

Beginning his career in the insurance sector, Fabiaan joined a non-profit organisation as a secretary. In 1993, he switched over to the food industry working at Tate & Lyle before becoming Human Resources Manager at Campina Melkunie. After four years, Fabiaan moved to Alken-Maes as Organisational Development Manager, where he was soon appointed Personnel Director. Three years later he was working as National Investment Manager in Sales. In 2002, Fabiaan became Managing Director and owner of a wholesale and small retail business, but in 2005 returned to his old love, HR, as Partner in the Accord Group. In June 2006, along with a number of other partners, Fabiaan took over Accord Group in Belgium and in 2014 he was tasked with coordinating the AltoPartners Leadership Practice and he is currently working on an integrated offer.

Accord Group Belgium is an executive management consulting firm, with a mission to help clients build resilient organisations where people, work and strategy are balanced with the purpose to create value by focussing on the essence. In his role as Managing Partner at Accord Group Belgium, Fabiaan draws on his extensive experience as well as the integrated and holistic ethos of the firm, to offer his clients the following advice about refining their business models: “Science is all about ‘creating conscious awareness’. Use it before you act. Challenge your own beliefs.”

Fabiaan has always been passionate about creating an integrated and holistic approach to strategy implementation, organisation development, recruitment, talent management, competence management, leadership development and compensation policy. It was this deep interest in finding value in people and organisations that lead Fabiaan to creating the VALPEO® (Valuing People and Organisations) platform – an integrated online tool which enables organisations and people to unlock the value in one another to ensure continued business and individual growth and success. Fabiaan is also a celebrated author, having published his book “The Disruptive Competence” on 25 June 2015 – his book sheds light on the fact that the disruptive competence is all about being aware of the complexity of one’s environment and having the ability to deal with that complexity: “What one is not aware of, one cannot react upon.”

Fabiaan graduated with a degree in Banking, Stock Markets and Finance, and holds a Master’s degree in Commercial and Financial Sciences as well as an MBA.
