Phenomenal Women of AltoPartners – Anjali Singhania
This week we profile Anjali Singhania, a partner in Accord India’s Mumbai office with a gift for seeking out talent in the FMCG and Media sector. Armed with a BA honours in Economics from Delhi University, Anjali is the ideal executive recruitment specialist: focused, rigorous and highly responsive, with an ability to zero in on the precise requirements of the role. So much so that many of her placements tend to become clients; arguably one of the best measures of success in this industry.
Where were you born, and where did you grow up?
I was born and brought up in Delhi, the capital city of India, and later moved to Mumbai in 2004, where I have been living for the past 19 years.
What was your first job?
My first job was as a Media Planner in an advertising agency, Grey Worldwide, where I worked closely with clients to create visibility for their brands across various mediums.
How did you get into executive recruitment?
It was purely by chance! I had gone to meet a headhunter to seek advice about my next career move. During the discussion, they spoke about the search business and convinced me to consider the profession. I switched careers in 2005 and, since then, have worked with a diverse set of clients on their talent acquisition needs.
What motivates you to do what you do?
Each client and mandate has its unique set of challenges. Solving for these unique needs by looking at the right set of people keeps me excited. The process of finding the right match and being seen as a ‘trusted advisor’ to both clients and candidates is something that I enjoy.
Name one thing you love about the work you do.
My work as a Search Consultant ensures I interact with a diverse group of people and understand what motivates them, which being a people person, I thoroughly enjoy. Solving for business problems, along with enabling professional journeys and building long-term relationships in the process, has been immensely gratifying.
How do you relax and unwind?
I like taking some time out towards my fitness regime and enjoy my yoga sessions in particular. My young kids keep me on my toes, and I love spending my free time with them, my family and friends. Binge-watching is also my thing these days.
What are you currently reading/ listening to?
These days I am reading about Ikigai, the Japanese secret to a joyful life, and am enjoying the perspectives around health and happiness. Positivity and expressing gratitude for the smallest of joys is what I’ve started working towards!
