Joining Daniel Thorniley on the panel were Dr. Maria-Theresia Niss, Member of the Management Board of the Austrian manufacturing group Mitterbauer Beteiligungs-AG and member of the Austrian National Council, and Wolfgang Niessner, CEO of Gebrueder Weiss Holding AG, the internationally leading Austrian logistics group. Both emphasized that the EU eastward enlargement was a great opportunity for many Austrian companies and a start in the direction of internationalization. However, due to the ongoing globalization the future markets for many Austrian companies not only lie in Europe, but in Southeast Asia and the USA. The task of Austrian industrial players is now to set up the framework conditions so that Austria can play a significant role in these markets.
